Out of interest how come wildlife is tact in with the landscape and cityscape areas? I will admit first time I went through the galleries I didn't see wildlife at all in the bigprint (its only mentioned in the smallprint) so I was going to ask why no section - but now its sort of why no section and if there is to be no separate section, could the title of this existing section be edited to include wildlife so that its more noticable

Well, I've started small and deliberately kept the number of Galleries to a bare minimum, just to keep the echos down in here.
I don't mind adding Galleries as it seems appropriate. I'd like to see more folks chime in on this issue.
Do we need additional Galleries, one separate for wildlife? What's the general consensus?

I think with the forum being so small, it is a toughy.
On another forum,I saw something like this.
Wildlife/Nature, which included everything from animals(domestic/wild/zoo), birds, insects and flowers. I figure cause most insects are on flowers, they could be grouped.
I have also seen, the Black and White gallery was grouped like
Black and White/Infrared/HDR. HDR is becoming pretty popular, and I have seen dedicated galleries just for that alone.
People could include ....People(alive or dead) Street/Photojournalism, Babies/Portraits.
Then Landscape/Cityscape and a General for other stuff.
Just my 3cents(the Canadian dollar is low right now, so it costs more)

More than likely, the Galleries will be expanded down the road. If no one really objects to keeping it small for now, that's probably what we'll do. :)
For things like HDR images, it's really the member's choice. There is a digital forum with a graphics section, so if there was any discussion of how the image was made, that would be the more appropriate place.

I was all for a separate gallery for wildlife for many many months on another forum, I was wrong, it was a mistake. More galleries mean less replies

and more thinking on my side where to place a photo ... is a wild animal in black and white something for the wildlife gallery? or for the black and white gallery?
is a house with a tree a cityscape or a landscape?
and so on ... ;)
the more members, the more sub-categories would be a good idea maybe.

I think it really depends on the community though - I know smaller forums where they have two galleries (one for serious and one not so serious) and comments are way down on that site.
So I don't think it so much to do with how many galleries you have since the number of photos will (most likley) still be about the same - it just depends how energetic people are with commenting.

Kind of what my line of thinking is now. Anything can be over-thought, right? I'm for keeping it on the simple side until our needs dictate a change is needed. I'm counting on you all to check the pulse in that regard. :)

since i am generally interested in almost all kinds of photography, except most of the wedding and children stuff, many galleries mean i have to check many and will miss many.
for someone who is more focussed on one kind of photography only, more galleries are better, since he does not have to go through many images not interesting to him if he sticks to one gallery.
so it is never ideal for everyone i suppose :big grin:
