One of my neighbors ordered a large print (24x36) from me. They would like me to sign the print. Where should I sign it and what type of pen should I use?
Thanks!

lots of variables. How is it going to be framed? Is the matt going to be wide or non existant? Usually it is in the lower right hand corner. the type of pen used depends on the paper and what you feel like. Some use pencils, others black ink pens, and some sharpie pens. Most pro photographers sign the mat, or do it on the back of the photo in pencil. Also nice to put the date on it, (at least the year).
only when i sell one.
with tradition silver i sign verso if the window doesn't have a revel. if it does i sign in pencil under the print on the right hand side being sure the sigurature doesn't run out from the edge of the photo.
with inkjet prints , it depends, with glossy prints i have to use a special pen ; a staedtler liquid point pen that is archival in nature. with matt prints i use a pencil under the edge of the print on the right hand side.

On a print that size I sign bottom left about 3/8 inch in and up to allow for a matt. I use an acid-free, silver or sometimes gold pen. & congrats!

Generally, I echo what has already been said here. I don't routinely sign prints unless they are sold (or matted for a show -potential sale). I always sign on the matt, right lower corner, rather small, and usually include the year the photo was taken.
Congrats on your sale! :)

Thanks for the advice everyone! They are insisting that I sign the front of the print. I'll have to go pen & pencil shopping now.

Congratulations! The question has never arisen for me. :)
Let us know how a 24X36 print works. I've had many enlarged to 18X24 with good results, but I've wondered how the shots would hold up with any more enlargement.
I would sign prints if they are stand-alone artwork. I would not sign images from portrait sessions, weddings, or other commissioned work.
Hey, I just realise, I never gave out more than 4 prints to other people in my whole life! ;) Must be because I am no professional

Thank you FP! They already have the print... it looks gorgeous. I was nervous about printing one that size. I used Adorama to print it and had it done on metallic paper.
