Here comes a new one from the last trip ... this time processed with Bibble 5 Preview v2.1b . The preview is still quite buggy and I still have to get used to it. But it looks promising :)

Very nice Alex...super composition. The selection to have the lighthouse OOF is a good one...I'd immediately have gone for F22+ to get it all in focus but you were bang on.

Excellent shot. And I have to say the standard of images around these parts is refreshing.

Alan.

Alan's reaction is the same as mine. The blurred llighthouse is perfect and it would never have occurred to me to do that. Very nice.

Thanks, you two seem to agree. I myself never realised that blurring the background object was such an uncommon idea ;) I also like f/32 for a lot of images , but horses for courses as they say ;)

I agree! I also would have been tempted to get everything in focus, but this way, it looks like the seagulls are on a 'journey' to that lighthouse.
Kind of like Frodo (on the left) taking the Ring to destroy it while Samwise (on the right) is wondering if Frodo has flipped his lid totally and gone all "dark side".:lol:

This is just brilliant :big grin:

Anyway, on a side note, since we were discussing f-stops here: The image was taken at f/14 with (1/300s and ISO 200). The secret to shallow depth of field is that the lighthouse is very far away and the image is taken with a 300mm lens focused for the foreground.

(seagulls at roughly 10 yards and the lighthouse at 1000 yards)

Seagull on the right is saying to seagull on the left:

"Hey Barney, that lighthouse look fuzzy to you? I need some chips before I totally lose it, mate!"

Alex, as always, you teach us. Thank you.
