Very cool shot, Rene. I like the way you got rid of everything but what matters. Your niece has a great expression.

My only qualm concerns the crop and all that dead dark space on the right side of the photo, but that's a quibble.

Aww, look at the rosy cheeks! And of course, those big expressive eyes! Lovely pic.

(Is she a redhead, by any chance?)

Not selective colouring, I just used dodge a little so when I darkened the image, her natural blues still came out. The dark on side - yeah, I could have cropped it tight, but I was going to use this at a later stage as a book cover on an updated NEXT GENERATION family album for my parents. So kept the dark bit for the title. Should have cropped a version for posting though....

No problem at all. Sometimes I find the eyes difficult when desaturating shots, its kind of hit and miss.

I like the pose, but I'm not really crazy about the harshness of the color. It kind of makes it look like her sweet little face is dirty. I guess I'd have gone with a little softer treatment.

I like the crop. You've given her 'space' to look. It will work perfectly with a book cover.

I have to agree with PhotoJet. I think the dark space will work great for what you're planning with the book cover. But (at least on my monitor) I find the desaturation leaves the flesh tones a mite gray in some areas - which may be what Jeanette meant about her little face looking "dirty". I'm not sure if a picture with such a cute facial expression needed any extra PS treatment, really. Mia is a doll! I'd just like to see some more natural flesh tones here.... more in keeping with a soft little one. :)

My two cents! One more thing - I think your idea of the "Next Generation" book is wonderful - I bet your parents are going to love it.

Thanks, my mother always comments that we dont have any family albums anymore now that we are all grown up, so I thought it would be a nice idea.
