This is a first for me. I'm asking for help on what digital camera to get. Reason I'm asking is Hubby/Dan is letting me get a new camera set up. I was in a big deep funk when after months of not only deep tissue massage, accupuncture, physical therapy and a special spin chiropractor, it has been deemed it is not a plateau but as good as my injuries are going to get. This following the damn fiasco of the botched surgery 3 years ago. So the Pain doc/nuerologist has asked if I had any kind of a goal I wanted to pursue. Being me that is a loaded question. I just threw out I wouldn't mind making a parady type video. Before the accident I was teasing my son about all the guys who wear their pants around their ass and have two pairs of drawers showing above them. Being sketchy about the whole thing, my doc ran with it. He had my chiropractor on speed dial and called her immediately. Now both offices are talking about what parts they want in the video. I'm commited without even working any details out. EXCEPT my son has been trained in video editing and sound editing gave me a list of things I need. Me being practical thought what about the higher end cameras that can do good videos as well. Something like the Nikon 3100 or the new 5100. This is where I need the help of those here. I'm a luddite. I know film cameras. I have a digigizmo that I got back in 2002 and had never felt I needed to upgrade. I need suggestions. What camera to get that can do double duty? Tim may know the editing software for the video, but he doesn't know still photography, so any suggestions as to programs as well. I learned photoshop in 2002 and have never upgraded that program either.

I bought the D7000 recently from Nikon because I can shoot full 1080 HD video on it, it is simple to use. Also its 16.1mp camera so great stills also. For video editing, iMovie is great if your a Mac User. Simple to use. Good luck with the project...

One of the guys I work with just got a D7000. It takes great photos but he said the video lost focus when the subject moved/changed. I quizzed him a bit about what modes he was shooting in and he said he tried lots of different settings and still couldn't keep subjects in focus when they move.

If you're getting this for video I'd be sure to test it on the type of videography you'll be doing to make sure it suits your needs.

This project sounds like fun! Serious work, but lots of fun. I hope you keep us posted once your camera selection is made and you start filming.

.....I have no useful suggestions on the digital camera selection, of course.

Sounds like the D7000 has the same issues as the 5100. Yet the 5100 was designed specifically to do videos. Keep the suggestions coming, I will definately check out the the D7000. Of course in a household of computer geeks, this also includes a new computer. I like the new IMac. Horrors in a house of PC users.

I checked our bank account this afternoon, and found the transfers had been made. I would have gone and gotten the Nikon 7000 first, but I found out the money was in at 4:14 pm and Harmon Photo here in Orlando closes at 4PM on Sat. So I went and got my new computer instead. It's an IMac with a 27" screen. Don't laugh I liked it because of the keyboard and the monitor. The guys are all PC. Hell I got a great deal. We got new android phones on Wed. I got the one that had the pretty red case. I find I'm too dumb at the moment for the smart phone.

Now the suggestions I need are for software. Remember I'm I'm a knowledge geek, not a technology geek. What is best for editing and such of images? We have the video stuff covered. But son has no clue about photos. He doesn't think that's important.
