I came across this the other day. A very old quote, but does it not still ring true?

"Photography is a marvelous discovery, a science that has attracted the greatest intellects, an art that excites the most astute minds – and one that can be practiced by any imbecile."

-Nadar (Gaspard Felix Tournachone), 1856

I would say to any artist: 'Don't be repressed in your work, dare to experiment, consider any urge, if in a new direction all the better.' Edward Weston to Ansel Adams

This reminds me of a story of a friend of mine who was lost in Paris. She asked a gendarme where the Metro station was and his response was "Very far ... ". She turned around and the steps to the station were right behind her.

"Think what I must suffer...fancy my despair. All day long I must pose and arrange for those eternal photographs. They will have me. Nobody but me will do; while I burn, I ache, I die, for something that is truly art."

- Napoleon Sarony, 1893 – apparently complaining over the huge success of his portrait studio, where he became famous in New York City for photographing celebrities of the day (such as Sarah Bernhardt) in various histrionic poses.

Speaking of which, did anyone else see the movie "Fur"? It's a fictionalized account of Arbus' life with Nicole Kidman and Robert Downy, Jr.

 I hear ya', bro!:salute: I'm thinking we all might have done that at some point! This is where my newer film camera saved me, since film is hardcoded (the DX) newer film cameras will read the film's ISO and automatically set that for you. Of course, you still have to remember to set it yourself on older, manual cameras! You can only hope you catch it when unloading the film and push/pull the film upon development and save yourself - from yourself!

I have not. From what I gathered the script wasn't very good. The scenes showing Nicole Kidman darting around with a Rolleiflex made it tempting to sit through, though. :big grin:

Did you like the movie?
