I feel old... :(
I got a recognition gift from work saying
"Welcome to the Quarter Century Club".
After 25 years at the same job maybe I need a change.

Nah....don't feel old, feel honored! :) Not many folks get to claim 25 years with the same company. You are part of a dying trend of what used to be taken for granted...so I say, hats off to you!
:toast: Congrats!

Well I've already done over 20 years with the current mob and I had 9 years with the one before that, so I guess it's possible to do. Congratulations to you though, it is still something of a milestone to be proud of.

Be thankful you have a job. Today we went to Vegas for my hubby's exit interview. He has 32 years in the same field, and 13 with IBM. But IBM is laying people off from VP's on down as fast as they can. All the jobs are slated to go to India. His prospects of a new job are very small. He needs to find a new vocation. At 50+ that is a hard thing to do. Jobs are disappearing fast here.

Best of luck to Dan with the job search.

Yeah the big layoff announcement from IBM the last of March caught us. Since then they have told all of the remaining employees that they will no lnger cover the costs of internet hook up or phone lines for those who worked at home. Yet they want them to work from home because it cut down the cost of offices. Oh well the lady who did the exit interview knows she is in the next round they expect to happen in the next few weeks. All of IBM except a handfull of top corporate types will be of Indian citizenship. That or if they have people here in the USA, the good old visa exception of a H1B which allows big companies to bring in Indian contractros for pennies to do the jobs here will be used. We exported the tech jobs and what remained made it so that we import non citizens to do it. Those contractors are brought in put in apartments with 6 or 8 other guys with they families still in India. They work here for 2 to 4 years then go home rich by their standards. So much for creating jobs in this country. Can't tell I'm a bit bitter about it. What I laugh about is that it is taking 5 guys to do what Dan did. At the rate of pay they have to pay them it is about double what Dan cost. So IBM can eat it.
I'm hopeful that Dan can find a new job. There are smaller companies that still need his type.

Good luck to you and Dan, Aggie. It's a rough economy to be job-hunting in.
Some of you are older than I suspected. I've been doing the same kind of work in the same place for 30 years, and over 20 of those were with people I still work with.

Pfffft! Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill (Or is it age and experience? Either way.....!)

Well I am trying to stay grateful for my job. Sorry for Dan's loss of job, Aggie. I have been in Broadcast Advertising for over 30 years, 17 with this TV station so I feel old all the time. We had lay-offs too and I had not seen that before. I have twice as much to do and no assistants to help anymore and less pay so I have very little time for photography. Which is why I am unable to go back to sleep when I wake up at 3am so here I am at 4:20 on the internet.
