I rented a Canon 100mm for the weekend to go the the Dallas Zoo to get butterfly shots (turns out they don't have them yet). I didn't change the lense out that day cause I was a little lazy and was trying to find the butterflies. I tried to put my wireless flash system to work.

Cool set, especially for a first time with a macro lens. Numbers 3, 9 and 10 are my favourites here. Number 8 would have been up there too, but that rogue twig got in the way :)

(I'm no macro expert, but it looks as if the flash was too strong is some of these...)

#8 is my favourite, but then I've quite a long history and interest in birdwatching. The 100mm macro is quite a beast of a lens. Before I got the 5DII, I always used the 60mm EF-S on the 350D, which was lovely and compact. I hadn't realised till I got it, just what a big lens the 100mm really is.

It's #8 for me! It looks like you had a good outing with the 100mm!

very nice shots. I really like the second shot, with the shadow of the bug on the petal. Great stuff :)

I was SO wondering what part of the elephant would be photographed with the macro lens...

I loved #5. The 100 macro is a little beauty of a lens, and fast too!

I think I will join Kundalini in the corner.....................

Great shooting there - really liking all that pollen on the bee - though maybe go into saturation and lower the saturation on the yellows just a little - its my experience that yellow often gets far brighter than the rest of the colours and then can start to dominate the shots.

9 and 10 though really stand out - the textures of the skin have come out fantasticly!

I think you need that lens for your arsenal! I have never considered just what a mess a bee must be after diving into a flower. This little guy is charming as can be. Okay, you can toss me out of the forum for punning.

I forget to use that lens often. Thanks for the reminder. It's fast, sharp, inexpensive and it can be used as a great portrait lens too.
