Dang, those gathering clouds are sooo ominous. I'd be looking for four horsemen.
Love the long shadows cast by the stones on the right.
This was actually the only moment I got where the foreground was illuminated by some patch of sun. I waited for about 2 hrs to get 3 shots.
Some tourists started to wonder what I was doing, and why I was not leaving, some actually thought I was a guardian of that site or something.

What an odd design - I love this place! That threatening sky provides the perfect drama, you could not have asked for better.

Hey Alex,
Cool anecdote...Very nice shot. Well worth the investment of time methinks. I'd love one day to get up close and personal to these monoliths.
Cheers,
Brad
Thanks!

Well, I remember waiting 3 hours at Eilean Donan in Scotland to get it tourist free and good light... just to discover later that my light meter was broken and I hence had utterly failed in exposure. Developing later would help a bit, but the colours were ... well, let us not talk about it ;)

Wow. Talk about dedication!
I've never in all my life had the chance to let so much time pass while waiting for a perfect shot. I've always had a husband breathe down my neck urging me on. "Let's GO at last. Come ON!" Or he'd just leave - whether it'd be in busy New York or out in the wilderness. Waiting? Gah! Why doesn't she just snap her pic and be gone like everyone else!?!?

Alex next time you go to Denmark check out a place called Olm Closter I don't think I spelled it correctly but that is how it sounds. It is an ancient monestarty right next to an ancient nunnery. There was a secret passage way between the two places underground. There are a lot of very good shots to be had in those catacome like tunnels. They also have displayed all the skulls of those who had brain surgery preformed. Many of them survived for a long while after according to the regrowth. That and most the hills in the surrounding area are mostly manmade. Those are the spots where a viking or king was buried. The height was due to the status of the person. If you haven't guessed yet I was born in Denmark. I don't know where you took this shot, but it is low lands which speak to me of Denmark. After all the highest point in Denmark is the Himmel berg (mountain of the gods) all of 75 feet above sea level, with a 75 tower built on top to make it a staggering 150 feet total. OK I'll shut up know (hul ceft)

Well worth the wait Alex ... on my monitor I'd like to see it a bit darker with possibly a slight touch of more contrast in the clouds.

I quite like it! I think adding more contrast wouldn't improve it (per se), it would just make it into a completely different shot (which isn't necessarily bad).
I especially like the shadows on the right. It almost seems like a battle of some sorts, with the good stones on the left, and the stones that had been taken over on the right side, with the evil shadows creeping towards the good stones...
Okay... officially too much imagination... :o
