So I got some very useful advice on how to convert an old 4MP digital camera (Olympus C-4000) into a Infra Red capable camera from Garbz (on the 'other' forum). It was a bit complicated taking it apart and putting it back together but worth my time. I had to grind down the IR blocking coating of the filter so it can let in the IR. An hour of fine grinding and the filter was clear of any coating.
Put camera back together (no, I was not left with any extra parts, lol) and snapped a picture with an old Leica IR filter handheld in front of the lens. This is what came out:

Mind you, it's not an artistic picture at all but my first try-it-out-to-see-if-you-screwed-up kinda test. Notice my finger in the upper right corner and the IR filter rim in the lower left corner. Will try to make a holder for the filter or use a larger one.
I'm happy today...
