View Full Version : Two variations on a theme
Here are two very different images on the same theme, very different techniques/technologies, very different weather/time of the day. Also, the first one suffers from the scanning unfortunately.

Suffers from scanning. I rather like the first one. Looks like something that would go great framed above my bed. Love the first one! Btw, if you are amateur I don't want to know what I am. :S

Thanks, I myself very much prefer the first one in terms of composition and mood.
This was taken in early morning at a remote lake in Algonquin Park, ON.
I have no idea what you are ;)

Both are lovely, but I agree the first has a nicer composition and mood.
(Dare I ask if you have spring and summer versions as well?)

Alex, talk to me about the top one...it's so ethereal, I just can't take my eyes off it. It looks like film grain, or am I just seeing mist?

Another vote for that first shot! I love the muted colours, and the way my eye searches the mist to see more trees. Beautiful

it is film indeed ...Well, my sweet, if that image were mine it would probably be framed and hung over the couch. I'm absolutely smitten with it - colors, composition, it really is a standout.
Wonderful work. :salute:

I am throwing my vote in with the others! That first one is just gorgeous with the hushed mood it sets. Makes me want to type quietly.
I spent time almost every summer at Algonquin Park! My Mom's Uncle was a park ranger there & her Aunt baked for the lumber camp. I have not been there in years, though.
Hmm, people really seem to like that very first one :)
Thanks.

Thanks. It's kind of fun when you get really enthusiastic response to something you may not have viewed as particularly special, eh? I bet you considered it just part of your theme on this special area. By happy accident you actually came away with an exceptional shot. ;)

I would prefer to call it satisfying ;)
I put way more effort into the first one, I know it has a more interesting mood, composition is more interesting (although simple).
Just often people do not realise this ;)
Also I did more images on that morning, which have a similar mood, but appear more 'ordinary'.
As for the second image, I was just too late at the scene, 30 minutes earlier the light would have been my friend on that one. I only added that second image because when I wanted to post the first one, I wondered if I had any similar image in my collection ;)
Both are great, although i prefer the slightly 'Twin Peaks' look of the first ;)

Can we see some of the others?
Can we see some of the others?
Maybe later, if i find the time to dig out the scans ... but they are not too spectacular anyway.

I was a bit stunned. Truely.
I can sense the stillness.
Very nice.
I can tell you , the scene was also stunning when I stood there in early morning. This was at the beginning of a hike north in Algonquin. I was so glad I had no companions, since their chatting would have killed the mood ;)
