they are certainly a different style than most folks here use (except MisMia perhaps) but I am a firm believer in expanding our thought process as much as possible.

I am not sure I could/would go into some of these areas as a photographer but I do think it is important to be done.

As an aside, in the 70's i thought seriously about PJ, but someone at the time i was studying with said, can you still shoot while someone is falling out of a building, or someone is getting shot. It became very clear, not for me !

I was a page at the 68 democratic convention in Chicago. After I thought it would have been fun to have had a camera. We inside were not allowed such things. This had been something I thought would have been fun until my best friends son was killed in a tragic boy scouting incident. The media was out of control with it all. They even inflitrated the inside of our church and took pics at the funeral. No one saw a camera, but the photos were there. She and I ended up on the front page of the LA times. I was 8 months pregnant and holding her up as we exited the church. From that point on I started having very negative views of the press and their need to take photos of everything no matter the privacy issues. Some things in my opinion just don't need to be photographed.

On the flip side I have a good friend in Santa Fe NM who is a PJ. She gave it up in 2002 when she was covering a story in Mexico. The drug lords where she photographing captured her, and were holding her for ransom. She over heard they were going to kill all of them in her group. She escaped while being allowed to use a bathroom. The rest of her group were killed. She did manage to escape with one roll of film. I've seen the photos, but she never gave them to her editor. The ordeal changed her mind about such photos.

Yeah we want to know, but it is different when you are involved. I personally given what is happening in the world right now, would rather search out stories and people doing happy things.
