Just a wierd thought, a maybe maybe not idea, but....there are 4 members here now, doing a 52 week project, and I will be joining in soon. Wouldnt it be cool to have a seperate gallery for this, so we can keep track of each member. I know we can use the "gallery" function, but who goes there anyways. :biglaugh::biglaugh:......and beside..I would have a place to put my horror images. We could call it...."The 52 Week Project"

Whatcha'll think?

Sounds like a good idea.

How about a more broad section for Photographic Projects - so that it can include others sorts of photographic projects (not challenges as such ;)) that people are going to undertake.

Not a bad idea...but would this not fit into "Member Organized" functions...? That forum was kind of set up for meetups, print exchanges and the like, but really it could be expanded to include any kind of group activity, and act as a place to post the work from it.

Could we expand the forum description or modify the title to accommodate these kinds of projects? I'm open to suggestions. We could move it to the Gallery section if that's preferable. We may still be small enough to have activity in its current location noticed, though. ;)

More thoughts?

Well, on my review of the current forum setup, it looks like it could go under:

-'Best of the Beat'...but the intro wording would need to be changed to add reference to 'challenges/projects'
-'The PhotoBeat Galleries'...with a new subforum beneath that heading along the lines of 'Challenges/Projects'.
-'Member Organized Functions'...but that's currrently located under the 'Off The Beaten Path' heading, which many visitors/members may equate with non-photography matters like games and chat, so they wouldn't think to look for the 52 week photo project threads there

To me, the place that makes the most logical sense to put the 52 Week Project threads (and other projects/challenges) is under The PhotoBeat Galleries, with a new subforum under that titled 'Projects and Challenges'.

Just my two cents worth.

Or it could be a sub-forum of the general gallery.

^^^ Yep, that would work too.

As long as it's in a place that can be found with little effort. "Galleries" under a new sub-forum might be easy enough.

I'm not sure that this would be fitting under Challenges because that seems to be a different animal all together IMO.

Id vote for in the galleries, or a sub gallery in there. There would be no theme(say, landscape, people) or anything, just a more organized place to have this. As it is going to be over a 52 week period, each persons project will be starting at a different time. I guess it would be more like a "blog" type gallery, in a way.
Personally I think the Challenges/Potm should stay as a "forum driven" gallery, where as this project thing is a more individual event and remain themeless(if that is a word:biglaugh:).

OK....I'm going to assume that a "52 week Project" means that each person doing the "project" takes pics each week, and posts them each week (D'uh!!! LOL!!). Beyond that...are there any guidelines???

It sounds like something that is growing in popularity, and a sub-forum for it might be nice!!! :queen:

Just my own blond opinion, but I dont think there would be any guidelines, as we all shoot different things. It is more individual projects. Like just last week, I have been shooting photos for the company website. This weekend I shot abandoned places. Next weekend I was asked to shoot a horse show....I know eh? :biglaugh::biglaugh:

Back to my crypt with me.

Without revealing my true hair colour, I agree with Chiller that these are individual projects and there aren't any guidelines (other than keep it legal, if possible. And if not possible, don't admit to anything)

(other than keep it legal, if possible. And if not possible, don't admit to anything) Anty's our legal counsel, here at the Beat. She's really good.

For the record, I have been promised Ice Caps but have never received them. So no de fatso, I mean no de facto bribery has taken place. ;)

Thanks for trying to help me out guys...but, but, but...what's the difference between posting pics every week....and doing the 52 Week Project!!!??? LOL!! I mean, is it just so that you commit to taking photos each week...AND posting them????

Thanks!!!

Antarctican

^^^ Yes, to me that is the difference. Committing to a 52 week project will hopefully force me to get out and take pics (and post them) more often (ie weekly). If left to my own devices, I would likely not post images that frequently

OK!! Thanks!! ...That clears things up for me!!! LOL!!!

And, same here...I take photos in spurts....and rarely post them these days it seems.

In fact...I feel like I'm getting worse instead of better!!! I was looking at some of the shots I took last year....some of them seem better than THIS year!!

:gah: :waiting: :gah: :waiting: :gah: :waiting:

I take photos pretty much every weekend, but try different things. One weekend might be nature, one might be old stuff, one might be street, another horror. For me it is a matter of getting out and practicing, even if Im going back to an old stomping ground. I might do it one week in the morning, and the next week in the evening. The light will change the whole feel of the image.
Sorry...rambling..but y'all get the point. Practice practice. :biglaugh::biglaugh:

I'm like you Chiller, I take photos every weekend, and pretty much most days too as my camera is like an Amex, dont leave home without it!

For me the 52 Week Project is a public commitment to work on skills to help me grow as a photographer. Work and home life are very crazy right now and it has been easy to let photography slip. Hopefully, when 52 weeks are up, I will be able to see a progression/improvement in my photographs. :goodvibes:

My brain works faster then I can produce. Especially my set up images. I need to constantly create a challenge or it drives me nuts. I dont post one smidge of the images I take. :(
