Wow! I just finished a session of deleting my old images. There's still many to cull, but I made a dent. There were several duplicate files to sort out on a couple hard drives. Now I have all my photos on an expansion drive and then everything is backed up on an external drive. I feel so much better cleaning up my mess of images.

What's your standard for keeping or deleting an image?

Let's see ... my method ... I invite friends over for a culling party?

I have a gazillion images to go through from before I was selective. These days I cull when I d/l. I really should get in the habit of marking images in LR.

I tend to never cull anything and try to avoid culling early as well. Sometimes I find that I don't like anything I've shot right after I shoot it - leave it in the harddrive for a week or so and then I often find that I'm a little less harsh with myself when the "I should have done XYZ" isn't at the forefront of my mind.

Long term I've not culled anything either though in all honesty I probably could - but it would take forever to get anywhere meaningful and with the price of storage its just easier to back everything up to harddrives (1 main external and two backup externals - my internal got overfilled so I dumped everything into an easy to manage external)

I don't really cull images either I just pick the ones I like, do a little this and that in LR and export to a folder on my desktop. Afterward I burn everything to DVD, I keep telling myself to get an external drive but I never seem to get around to it.

I give each image a rating in Aperture and as my images grow too big for my external drives etc, I delete anything under 3 stars, also I sort them by client, web, personal images. Personal ones also get deleted after a while. This summer I plan on getting a G-Safe 4TB so once that's full, I KNOW it's time to delete stuff! LOL

I have an internal drive just for my pictures Then when importing I make a second copy on my external 2TB drive.
Then cull on my lightroom drive.
If I need to retrieve a photo I can retrieve it from the external drive
Hope that makes sense
