A couple more shots from the streets of Portland, Oregon...

1. The Pearl District is an area of former warehouses, light industrial and railroad classification yards in Portland, now noted for its art galleries, upscale businesses, restaurants, and residences. The area has been undergoing significant urban renewal since the late 1990s, including the removal of a viaduct and construction of the Streetcar. The city really believes in sustainable growth, and this section of town – where the old coexists with the new – is one of the better examples of this philosophy.

Good series, Federico! 2 and 3 are my faves (love the red bricks).

If that church with the window you shot is downtown, I think I saw it when I was in Portland for a conference. I'll have to find the pics from that trip and see if it's the same one I'm thinking of (because of course there are lots of churches there).

Thanks, Anty. I thought the building in 2 & 3 was very beautiful. The church is indeed downtown, although it's not listed among the "touristy" ones –not that Portland has many "touristy" churches... It's actually not a touristy city, which in my opinion is a big part of its charm.

Thanks, MM! I did have lots of photo-fun back there!

All are great. The first is my hands down favorite. Its texture, focus, exposure and story keep me coming back to it.

#2 seems very Portland ... the sun trying to break through the clouds. So why is it called the "Pearl District"?
