With this image I was trying to juxtapose the terror and darkness of the, well, 'Dark Lord' with the beauty and brightness of the poppies beside him, and the sunshine that was present. I took the picture because the subject was being entirely uncooperative and has a camera-sense that makes candid shots nigh impossible to obtain. But I snapped this one before he was able to give another two finger salute, or make a face, so at least I was successful in that regard. I believe I captured a sense of the playfulness that lurks and coexists with the dark side, keeping it in check.
The fact the poppies are not terribly well defined, and are more just red blobs (albeit still recognizable as poppies) may detract from the meaning of the photograph. Is this an unavoidable result when the main focus was on the human subject, or could an alternate technique (such as HDR) have improved the shot and the conveyance of the message?
