When I started doing night shots of the city I live in I would drive all over town exploring, seeing things "through a lens" for the first time looking for images I wanted to capture. These travels brought me to parts of town I never knew existed before.

I had probably 10 of these sessions, all together but one thing occurred every single time that I found interesting. I would be setting up a shot, or waiting for a timed exposure to end and someone would walk up and just start talking to me. Not in a defensive way at all, more curious, inquisitive, and always friendly.

I do not know if it was the unusual sight of someone with a tripod and camera out on the street in the middle of the night but something told these people to come say hello. Maybe in the light of day I do not look as friendly and approachable, but this is not something I could see happening normally. It was always welcome and I always enjoyed the conversations I had with some of the night people in this city.

Have you had any unusual moments like this that you feel were enabled through photography?
