I have no problem with the poses. The front lighting of the subject is ok. It is the back lighting that fails. Look at picture #4 the branch of the tree brings out the left side of his face since there is a lighter background to it where the branch is. How to solve this? For some you need to put a light source down low and have it softly light up the background until the head is darker than the background this helps to bring those eyes out you want to highlight. It also helps to define the subject better. With the dark backgrounds you lose the top of your subjects head with that color of hair. If it were a blond with light color hair then different lighting would be needed. We normally don't think of back lighting. It doesn't have to be aimed at the subject. Have it pointed at the scenery behind the person, this will soften it. For others to get the back lighting shine a source from the side to illuminate the background without hitting the subject. again it is a matter of not having it bleed over to light the subject directly. Play with some lamps, flash lights or other sources of light. You are on the right track. Keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I shot these at night and my limited lighting set up created the problem of a lack of hair or background light.
One other flaw that has been mentioned was his pupils being so large as a result of shooting at night.
It's a learning process.
