I lucked into this shot! I was out front photographing the first blooms on the cholla, when the bee landed right in front of me.

It's no Doenoe shot, but it's a start! :big grin:

A darn 'good start', I'd say!! Is that your new lens you used? Love the sharp edges on the 'petals' of the flower, and all the subtle detail in them. So nice of the bee/wasp to cooperate with you like that.

Yes - tell us, is this from the new lens? It's as if the bee dropped in to pose for you - this looks great.

Thanks Anty! I'm always amazed at what beautiful and delicate flowers are produced by these cacti with huge thorns!

Thank you Terri! I did use the new lens for this shot. I love it, but there is a big learning curve, IMHO.

Cholla or the jumping cactus. You are brave to get that close to that beasty plant. Great shot too. When my son was about 4 he was new to where cactus grew (we had just moved to New Mexico) He was outside playing when he brushed past the plant. Needless to say he was impaled several times. He was so angry at the plant he turned and spanked it. It took me many hours to get all the little spines out of him. Best to view cholla from a picture.

I think it is a darn good start too. These things are so fast, they are tough to track down. Nice one Misses.

Nice flower ... and your new lens is a ???? I'd selective darken the bee and that flower sexual organ in the middle (at least as it appears on my monitor).

 Yes it is the jumping cholla! The area is covered with them. I do try to stay as far away as possible, but the flowers are so pretty!

Thanks Gary! I'll go back to the original and see what it looks like.

I purchased a 105mm VR Micro in February. I'm having fun with it, but it has been an adjustment too.

Good one, Miss Mia. Nothing wrong with serendipity!

I've wandered around in cholla and rattlesnake country for a long time without injury. Just gotta watch where you're going. I have had to take two dogs to the vet because of cholla, though, and a hunting friend who backed into one went into shock.
