I'm still a-learning the macro $hi...I mean, stuff. Hell, some, even most aren't macro, but cropped to hell. But my intent was to get some macro. Thank goodness this place is only an hours drive. Will do it again........ when the kids are in school.... ARRRGGGHHHHH

Tear 'em apart. I need to figure out how to do this.

Cheers.

they look pretty good
I just wonder why you changed your ISO to 1600. Cause the noise doesnt really help. Maybe you can use a noise reducing program. Other then the ISO it looks good, nice colors and all :)

I like the second one. You can see the third one's curly little tongue-thing! hahaha!!! :)

I agree that a lower ISO is helpful. If there is not a lot of light, it's still better. I've found with my macro lens that it is very beneficial to use a tripod and to shoot at multiple exposures... some with shallower DOF and some with a deeper DOF. I think your first shot would have been better at a 'deeper' DOF.
That said, I do not shoot bugs much, so I am not sure if a tripod is 'doable'... perhaps a monopod? Maybe our resident "bug-spert" (expert in bugs) can give some practical advice?

I agree that a lower ISO is helpful.

I think the noise is due to operator error with regard to exposure and a heavy crop. ISO1600 should be a walk in the park with the D700.

Looks to me like you're figuring it out just fine!!!
Cheers.
