This morning, when I get to the TPB home page I'm getting the following message:

"Fox Paw, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation."
I finally found that the drop-down menu allowed me to get to specific forums. If I've been banned, the message makes sense, but I don't recall making any jokes that were that bad.

You might or might not have seen this announcement (http://www.thephotobeat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2884). You guys have probably been classified as spammers :)

I go the same message, cause I have the homepage in my favorites. I just cleared my internet cache, and things seem o.k. :cheer:

By the way, if anyone's interested in getting a Russian bride, let me know.

OK, so not quite as seamless as I'd hoped. At least you found the way in, but I'm now wondering whether there are others who haven't managed it.

Maybe I ought to put another membership-wide email out telling people how to get back in, just in case. At this rate, TPB is going to end up being classified as being a spammer... :irked:

I got the same thing, but I just clicked "New Posts" and got right in without doing anything else.

Sorry for the bumps! We decided it was worth trying to put in some blocks for the PM system since we've gotten so much spam via PM's as of late.

It should be working smoothly now. Chris did a great job. :cheer:

Hopefully Chiller will continue to be happy with his 2 Russian brides, since the plan is to keep more of these kinds of "special offers" OUT of the Beat.

I get that message every time I come into the site because of the way I have my bookmark set up. If I got it I would not have noticed it. :(

FWIW, I'm still getting the message. I can still get in but newcomers might be deterred.

Yes 5:59 P.M. EST, and still got the message. Just clicked on "Forum", anyway, and got in...

Yep, I cleaned the browser cache, with both CCleaner, manually through the Browser, and using another program for W7 that run's a thorough cleaning of any browser activitie, cookies, etc....I can get on by simply clicking on "forums" even after receiving the admin message, but apparently, there is still a problem. Not "Fixed".

 I'm so sorry. It's been running seamlessly behind the scenes, as well, so I can't tell you why what you've done so far hasn't cleared it up for you. I've been logging in and out both from work and now home and have no issues on my end.

Chris will investigate further. Thanks for being patient!

I can't access the home page either but got in throught the 'forum' button on the menu bar :)

A possible way to combat the spammers is to disable PM's for new members untill they have say 50 posts, or have been a member for 30 days or something similar.

Chris of Arabia

I'm not 100% sure about this, but it might be worth those having a problem logging out of the forum and then back in again. The only ones who should have seen anything different, would be those in the normal registered users group, not those with administrator or moderator permissions. I just tried logging off and the home page is visible to guests without an issue, so is the forum. The other thing is that logging out gives a message that the cookies and cache are cleared in the process.

Worth a try?

The figures may be slightly different, but that's exactly what has been put in place.

I logged out and logged back in and I still get the message.

Chris of Arabia
01-22-2010, 09:49 AM
This is very peculiar. It only seems to be affecting a small number of people as far as I can see, but there's no difference between those few and the rest who aren't seeing an issue. The only thing I can think is that there is a cache of some sort downstream of you holding an old page, a little like some were seeing when we moved servers a month or so back.

I had no issues at all with the Test Admin Account I set up - that quite happily breezed through the 'promotion' routine that has been set up for new users.

I'm left with little option at the moment other than to wait and see for a day or two, and see where that gets us.

I had logged in again at home. When I got to work, I pulled up the home page, but noticed I wasn't logged in on this computer. So I logged in and there came the message again.

I'm still getting the message, but only when I''m logged in.

Chris of Arabia
01-22-2010, 10:10 PM
I'm beginning to think that there's more to this than just caches and cookies. I've had a question up at the vBulletin Forum for a few hours now, but so far no response unfortunately. There's one thing I'd like to try later, but that will have to wait till I get back from work, which is where I should be now...

PatrickHMS
01-22-2010, 10:55 PM
Maybe you should just leave it like it is, as most of us know how to get around it.

Mebbe it will keep some of the riff-raff, bots, and creepy-crawly thingies out.

I still get it- It's kind of the least of my problems so it's no big deal to work with.

me too. Easy to dodge around. Frankly, if this problem keeps the spammers out I don't care. It's our secret back door. :)

Anyone like to give it another try? Got pointed at yet another little corner of user permissions tucked away in the undergrowth...

The offending message is gone (at least for me). However, the only thing that now appears in the home page (at least for me) is the result of the Halloween Contest --not sure if this is how the home page looks these days.

Chris of Arabia
01-23-2010, 12:16 PM
Well it's a start, but I can see rather more than that both as an admin and when I'm not logged in. I'll give the test account a try and see what it can see.

Same thing for me! It's only when I'm logged in, otherwise the home page is fine.

Yes, thank you.

Seeing just the Halloween contest almost sounds like you're being pointed to a cached version from your browser.

And suddenly, I'm not seeing about 70% of the smilies here, either, but that could be completely unrelated.

First thing I get now is the page about the photo by Chiller, and I wasn't even a member then, so it wouldn't be in my browser cache.

Somehow, methinks it's a live link...

KMann

What do you guys see now as the first page of www.thephotobeat.com

I see Chiller's gory Halloween photo.

As much as I would not want to say anything negative about the photo and would defend his right to make photos of men killing women with all that blood and stuff, as freedom of expression, I don't think it's the best representation of what we are about. People might get the wrong idea and move on.

I'm just saying.
