I'd like to try my hand at some indoor photography, going to the next step of using "proper" lighting, other than flash. I really just need the basics to start with, as it will be an experiment, first, and then try to advance from there. Also, I have no inclination, nor the talent to be a pro, just some tasteful indoor shots, and also shooting custom bikes indoors, under less than "perfect" conditions.

I'm sure that there are literally a ton of books on the subject, but if some one can help me weed them down to a choice of a few good books, keeping in mind that this subject will be totally new to me, and if you have any links to some info on the web, that is geared more toward the beginner, that would be greatly appreciated, also. In fact, if anyone can make some suggestions for a "budget" system, that will get me by, until I decide that I want to do this more often, that would be cool...

Thanks ahead for any help,

Oooops! Forgot to say that I've found a bunch of links but they all seem to be oriented towards using a Digital Camera, and it's associated I/O options.
I'm going to be shooting film only, at least for a while. Thanks again.

I have a great book... but can't remember title or author. I'll post it up when I get home tonight.

Well, Pugs,

Quit trying to bend coat hanger's to hold that honda together with, and find me that book...

Jim... You wouldn't get as cranky from the cold if you'd stop wearin' those a$$-less chaps...

Anyhow, my wife wanted me to take her out for supper, so... I apologize but hunting down that book got relegated to an after-thought...

BUT... now back from Taqueria La Terazza, I have the book in front of me. It is:

"Master Lighting Guide For Portrait Photographers" - Christopher Grey

http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lighting-Guide-Portrait-Photographers/dp/1584281251/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1263611422&sr=8-1

I actually read it cover to cover in one sitting several years ago and have been keeping it as a reference book since then.

Hey, don't blame me if the last thing you hear when you put the key in that ricecycle, and the last thing you hear is tick..tick..tick....blinding flash of light, instant headache, then eternal peace....
