They are also known as Javalina. We had a herd of about 20 showed up behind the house last night. We used to see them on a regular basis, but it has been months since their last visit. It was a real treat to see them and we cleaned out the pantry with things to feed them.

These are some snaps from last night.

That's kind of neat but I bet they would be tough on a garden if you have one. The little one is kind of cute.

They are cute (especially the little one)!

How big are they? The one by the hand looks fairly good sized. Do people hunt them?

I think it's soooo cool you get these cute little critters coming by your house! The baby one is terribly cute. Thanks for sharing these pics with us.

Thanks OFG! They are very tough on a garden.

Thanks Jeanette! The little ones are very cute and they make the cutest little noises.

They can be quite big. I think the one taking the photo is about 60 lbs. Yes, people do hunt them and I hear they are pretty tasty.

Thanks Anty! They always come by at the worst time to photograph them. I've tried using a flash, but it scares them. :(

:pig: I love them.

Well, I can tell by looking at these pictures I'd have an ongoing love/hate relationship with them. On the one hand, gardening is hard work and you want to reap what you sow. I'd have trouble with any critters who went grubbing through it, and I'm sure these guys would love it.

OTOH, I love wildlife, and seeing them around makes me happy. I'd be doing this same thing, tossing out some food and trying to get some pictures. And the little guy is sooooo cute!

A nice problem to have, though. Thanks so much for sharing these, Mia!

lol, you two ladies are too funny. Being raised on a farm in Nebraska we had lots of hogs. I usually got the runt of the litters to raise. One year snuffles followed behind my mom and I when we planted the potatoes in the garden. Mom dug the hole i scooped out the excess and cut up the old potato and put it in. snuffles came behind us and routed the dirt over the potato start. He also stomped the ground down since by this time he was nearly 300 pounds. Was a sad day when i came home from school and found out my dad had shipped snuffles to market. Oh well that is life on a farm.

I love the picture with the baby. Truely remarkable given a wild mothrs proction of their young.

Looks close enough to the wild boar family that I'd suggest a Barolo or Barbaresco...However, looking at those soulful eyes on the last shot, well, I’d simply have to leave the cork in the bottle. What cute little buggers! Thanks, Mia.

Thanks Terri! They can't get into my backyard, so a garden would be safe there. Anything is the front yard is fair game! We're lucky to have so much natural land between our homes.

They say Javalina is yummy. They are incredibly fast and hard to catch. Although, this group might be pretty easy!

Thanks Aggie! The babies are so sweet. I always want to nab one with the pool net and keep it!

Thanks Rollei! They are cute but they can be vicious! I've seen them take on a pack of coyotes and win!

WTF? Sorry, but I have never seen them before living in Ireland, are they pigs? They look like a small bear that rang face first into the back of a bus!

Cool by the way..... I would have fed them magic mushrooms and sat around waiting to see what happened!
