Yep. I clean my teeth before I get in the shower and sometimes forget to throw the empty tube away after I get out so when I go back I find an empty one. I can almost always get more out as it takes at least three days to remember to put a new one in there.

Scott's spend too much money! Danes taught the Jewish people how to be cheap. I'm guilty of taking a small little copper pick I forged to reach in and get the last of the tooth paste out after squeezing it to death. I make soap out of fat renderings I get for free from the local market's meat department. I scour the country side for funky edibles like pine nuts in the fall. I save those plastic containers to reuse. I reuse water bottles. Which they say you shouldn't because it leeches out toxins...if it did that it would do it initially and the water when you buy it would not be safe. I reuse plastic bags and paper bags. With my copper metal smithing, I waste all of 25 grams a year in copper that can't be made into ornaments. Yet now I reuse that smidgen making my own solder for silver. I fall in love with a pair of shoes and wear them for years until they literally fall off my feet. I reuse old clothes to make quilts. Old towels become shop rags. If you haven't figured out I grew up with parents that lived and thrived through the last depression. That and bneing raised on a farm in Nebraska, has taught me plenty about savings and economizing. The only thing I couldn't do was chop the head off a chicken. Once that was done, I could do the rest and have it served up for lunch less than 2 hours later. I make water melon rind pickles so I don't waste the rind. Beets make a wonderful dye to use in mixed media art work. Old tissue paper saved makes starter for the fireplace. Deadfall trees locally can be cut up and used for a heat source. Darn I'm getting tired just think of all the work to be done.

I asked the question because I bought a backup tube of toothpaste over a month ago, thinking it won't be long now. I think I can still get another day or two out of it.

i bought a new tube about a month ago thinking that i didnt have a backup for when i run out. i still have at least a month left in my tube especially if the bf doesn't come here. he's drives me mad though squeezing from the middle and not the end. he'll throw out a tube with at least a 2 weeks worth of toothpaste still inside.

we had tube squeezers when i was a kid back when the tubes were metal and not this soft plastic that takes back its shape. im going to invest in a new tube squeezer. i wont stand for wasted toothpaste!

That's why you should always have separate tubes of toothpaste! ;)

my newest life goal is to invest in a squeezeit.
and my stress levels will go down knowing he cannot squeeze from the middle of the tube. i dont know why it gives me so much stress but it does. it really drives me mad.

2 tubes of toothpaste leads to waste. i cant have that.

A trick my hubby hates.... but he puts up with it, is to take those little soaps from motels and put them in a small carton with a little water. after a while they get mushy. stir thme together, and let it dry out again. Then you have a big bar of soap. You can also add old bits of other soap bars to it as well. It's not pretty, but it works like soap is supposed too. Oh and windshield cleaner I make it my self. Take a gallon jug put in about 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol, half cup of white vinegar, and 1 tabspoon of dish soap. Shake it up and use when you need it. The alcohol keeps it from freezing. you might need to add more depending on how cold it gets in your area.

Last time I made homemade rootbeer, I over did it a bit. I tried a new recipe that was supposed to sit in the sun for 3 hours to activate it and make it ferment. Well dummy here lives wher the sun shines very well, and extra hot. I forgot it all day. I didn't want to waste it. It was probably about 25% alcohol. I put it in the fridge to cool down. That night I heard a horrible explosion. The glass gallon jug it was in had exploded and partially blown the door off the fridge. I found a different recipe for root beer.

It all comes from being damn cheap! There are other things like film I would rather spend my money on. Or buying toothpaste in bulk at costco.

I had a go at ginger beer once. Sorted it all out, put it in sealed bottles and then when the time came for it to be ready I opened it in the kitchen. Bad idea. The top flew off and a large fountain with the scent of raw sewage hit the ceiling. I put my thumb over the top and got covered. My dad ran off. I never made ginger beer again.

Opening the rest in the garden was fun. The neighbours must have thought we were shooting each other.

once the tube is dead, take some kitchen shears and cut the side open. An old soft toothbrush and the lleft over toothpaste in the tube you can't squeeze out makes a wonderful cleaner for jewelry. Just brush away, and rinces then dry. Makes diamonds just sparkle. See there is still life in that last photo.
