I took my camera to my son's B-Ball game today to see how the 7D compares with my old 30D at high ISO ... I'm pleased ...

Sigma 50-150mm f/2.8 at 50mm
f/2.8 @ 1/500 sec
ISO 2000 Available light

it seem a little soft, the shutter speed maybe a little slow or is it for resizing for posting

For ISO 2000, that's amazing. It does seem a bit soft--did you sharpen it?

Thanks. Maybe it is a bit ... I think it is a combination of shutter speed choice, lens wide-open (sharpest when stopped down a bit), and not enough sharpening ...

what metering mode where you using, shooting with spot metering or shooting a stop under might buy some more shutter speed

I probably could have shot a bit faster and upped the ISO a bit more.. Using center cluster of 9 metering ... that wasn't the problem.
