I was going to send off a PM, but just wanted to throw this out there. I have checked on two computers so far, and the front page of TPB seems wider then the others and sits off to the right of the monitor. It might just be me, but was wondering if anyone had this issue too.

My screen res is 1920x1200, so pretty much everything fits here. I'll check at work and see what I can see on that one.

I get the same thing as Chiller...if I got to 'thephotobeat.com' (as opposed to thephotobeat.com/forum), the page is wider than my screen and I have to scroll to the right to be able to click the 'log in' button. It's just the one page that's like that, that I can tell.

It seems to be just the one page here too. I opened it up on a third computer in the office and got the same. Hmm.....could this be Front Page Challenge..:lol::lol: Oh...>I kill me.

The front page is working fine on my computer. I checked it in a couple browsers and all was fine on my end.

I wonder if maybe....just maybe, it gets screwed up crossing the border into Canada.

Maybe TPB doesn't have a visa to travel into Canada! :p

Chiller what are you running for your resolution?

Actually, its the photos on the front page. They are causing the center to be at least as wide as the largest photo and then you have to add the left and right columns on it.

So you're saying it's our own (collective) fault? That's no fun.

Haha basically, I'm trying to figure out what to do about it. I don't want you guys to have to post tiny pictures but... it does seem to present an interesting problem. Ideas?

What about the same trick that gets pulled at that other place which constrains images to a maximum size? It's a little crude in operation but might work. Or is there perhaps something in CSS that you could use [heads off to find reference book]

Oh and what should the max width of the centre section be?

How about making a copy of the CSS file and saving it under a new name. Then point the php file for the front page to the new CSS. Amend to the new CSS to have a 'max-width' rule set in the IMG tag to whatever you want to limit things to (probably in px). Would that work?

It seems to fit better, but some of the images are being cut off here at work. Will check at home. I have contacted Canada Customs, and they are looking into it at their end as well.
Im going to check out the resolution here too. Seems this reply box is going wonky too, and the last row of smilies is off the page.

Chiller, I've seen that issue with the smiles before. It isn't just you.

Chris, the CSS isn't quite that easy. All these pages are dynamic. However, maybe I can figure something out if I get bored one night. That won't be very soon unfortunately. I also need to see what happens with the default vb skin. I wonder if its just this theme.

It looks like there are just some controls that are less well-behaved when considering client browser width... some of them conform and some don't do so well.

The only way to really fix the issue is to fix the pictures. I haven't found a plan I like yet. The easiest would be to just take the pictures off the front page all together. I'm not a fan of that idea and I don't want to install something that would site wide auto adjust the photos either.

Not sure if it can be done here, but on our halloween forum(they are not photographers) a lot of pictures posted are way too large, and some dont know how to resize them. What we did to feature a persons prop on the front page, was ask permission to resize the photo, and place it in the
"gallery" section, all resized for them, and it fit the little box nicely. Yeah it took a few extra minutes, but the front page did not skew off the side of the monitor. Just a thought...I will hush now, and go back to my crypt.
