We have got the worst sandstorm I've seen in over 9 years going on here at the moment. I've taken some pictures, but can't upload them at work. I'll post some up later. Midday is currently bright to murky orange, verging on the brown.

Can you keep the sand out of your homes? Are all the windows and doors sealed well enough?

I'll find out in an hour when I go home. The office is OK though. It's clearing a bit now, but visibility is still only around 150-200m.

 A sandstorm is one of those things I don't care if I never see. All I can think of is, "Wrap up the camera! Wrap up the camera!"

Hope everything is okay at home. Stay safe in that mess!

The town I live in is named Hurricane for a reason. We get gentle breezes of around 45mph. When the wind blows I've seen over 95 mph sustained winds here. You can't keep the dust out. This is red rock country and our dust is bright red and sometimes a quarter inch thick. We have dark carpets for a reason. It gives your windshield of your car that nice frosted soft glow look.

When I think of dust storm...I picture that scene in 'The Mummy' when the dust storm forms a face and tries to eat their plane.

We've had a winter storm warning here last week and this weekend we were almost snowed in at the In-Law's farm. The snow drifts on the county roads were several feet high in spots. Our little Honda FIT would never have made it out if my F.I.L. hadn't driven his 4x4 through a few times.

Still...I wouldn't trade the snow for a dust storm...good luck with that.

They are pretty amazing. We get them here in Arizona during the summer thunderstorm season, but nothing compared to the ones you see. It is so strange to see that huge wall of dust moving across the city.

Glass coverage on your auto insurance is a must here. Your windshield gets sandblasted!
