Well over the last number of months I have used 3 different lenses. Sigma 10-20mm Wide Angle for landscape, cityscape and travel. Nikon 50mm and 85mm for portraits and general photographic work. However, after getting such sought after and excellent lenses like the 50 and 85mm, I found I hardly ever used them...

Also, having my 10-20mm on the D300 most of the time, 50mm and 85mm started to look like telephoto to me! So having shot a friends wedding recent, and chopping and changing between 3 different lenses, I found it a bit cumbersome. Also, I found my family of Dust Bunnies (sensor dust) just got out of control. So what does one do in a situation like this? RESEARCH!

I put my short range zoom options up and compared them. 24-120mm or 16-85mm. 24-120mm seems like a standard lens, almost kit like in fashion. Having read up on the more expensive 16-85mm, the exceptionally high optics for DX camera's and excellent working in low light, this seemed to be the better choice. I am trying to stay away from proper telephoto lenses as I am trying, not yet succeeding to live my photographic life by the motto, if your pictures aren't good enough, your not getting close enough! (James Nachtwey I think!)

If you shoot with a large telephoto from a distance, your not going to feel the scene your in, your not going to experience it up close and personal, therefore in my opinion, your not going to capture it right. But you know, that my change in the future...

Anyhow this weekend I am planning some shooting in Dublin City centre, so if you see me, say hi.....
