I was about to order Photomatix pro, but found the website directed me towards an internet reseller to place the order -- Plimus.com
Before placing the order, I googled Plimus and found a large number of fraud complaints against the company. Has anyone had a bad experience with your Photomatix order or heard of any?
I'd love to buy it, but I'm nervous now.

I had no problems. Did you go here? http://www.hdrsoft.com/
I got Photomatix a long time ago, starting with the free trial and later paying up to get rid of the watermark.
none at all. i think i had to buy the same way. i can go back and see who the payment was made too. but no issues.
their customer service (photomatix) has been great.

yes, I went to hdrsoft.com ... the ordering system bounces you over to the other site ...
I'm not worried about hdrsoft ... I'm worried about plimus.com
why not contact photomatix?

why not contact photomatix?
Thanks. Did just that -- sent them an e-mail. I'm waiting for a response :)
Frankly, with all those Photomatix users out there, I would think I would have heard something if there was trouble. On the other hand, I've been badly burnt before and am gun shy.

By the way, Ian, I think you'll like it. These days, I use Photomatix to tonemap single images that need rescuing more than I use it for HDRs.
The controls take some getting used to. You once recommended a Michael Freeman book to me. His book on HDRs wasn't generally that helpful to me, but the chapter on using the Photomatix controls almost justified the purchase price. Maybe the Phoenix library has it.

Thanks, Fox. I hope his composition book was useful -- I really like it.
If I have LR2 and CS4 do I need the CS4 plugin, or will I be happy with the included LR plugin and the standalone version? That would save me some scratch.
BTW, there are several 15% off codes out there on the web if anyone else is thinking of buying it.

I don't have Photoshop or Lightroom so someone else will have to answer. Using Photomatix as a stand-alone has never bothered me, though

Well, I got this nice note from Photomatix, so I feel better now ...
Dear Ian,
Thank you for your interest in Photomatix.
Ordering a Photomatix License through Plimus is definitely safe as they handle virtually all of our transactions, and have been doing so completely safely and fraud-free for several years now. They are known in the business as a very serious, legitimate company.
What did you search to find the complaints? I googled 'plimus.com' also and did not find complaints but this page was one of the results from the well-known McAfee:
https://www.mcafeesecure.com/RatingVerify?ref=www.plimus.com (https://www.mcafeesecure.com/RatingVerify?ref=www.plimus.com)
Actually I hadn't heard that McAfee tests Plimus daily for security as mentioned on the above page but I find that very impressive!
If you let me know it's OK to have someone from Plimus contact you directly, I would be happy to forward your message to our account manager there asking them to address your concern with you personally.
Sincerely,
Ron
