View Full Version : I despise Wal-Mart

This photo piggybacks on the story behind the nighttime shot which Kundalini posted. (Landscape-Cityscape)

This is a 1904 Queen Ann Style house that was to be torn down two weeks after my visit. The road was to be widened, and the home and its surrounding land (23 acres of pecan and fruit trees) developed for a Super Wal-Mart. The regular Wal-Mart just down the road was apparently insufficient to meet the needs of the sprawling metropolis of Sandersville, Georgia. I’m sure by now the original store sits vacant adorned with handsome graffiti; a glowing monument to strip mall development everywhere.

I’ll chew my leg off before venturing into one of their stores…

Side note: The realtor working this property stopped by as I was photographing…said that the previous (and last) occupant of the home committed suicide in the third floor bathroom (shotgun)

Nice story. Was this done on IR film, or something else?

Looks like IR to me! :big grin:

I love the shot, Brad. I also hate the indiscriminate way people tear things down and build un-needed things. Makes you want to scream. :gah:

(I will confess though that I do shop at Wal-mart for many things... NOT wine, however.) :redwine:

There is a WalMart being built 2 blocks from my house. Mixed reactions to this. One it is badly needed for the cheaper products in an area that thought Roedeo Drive (califoria) prices should be the norm where $10/hr was the high wage. It wouldn't irk me so much since it was built on a not worth much old volcanic field of lava. What gets me is that it blocks my view of Zion National park out my back yard. But then the housing development next to it also did that. "Sigh" guess I'll have to get out of the house.

I'm pretty sure this is Kodak HIE (infrared), now discontinued. (Although we have some in the freezer that will get us through a couple more years.)

There is another angle, too, of this beautiful home that he took...hey, Rolleimaniac! Can you show us that one, too? ;)

And it might be kinda fun if you took a look in My Pictures...see if I ever scanned the Polaroid transfer I made from this. :goodvibes:

Please tell me that you at least get to view the 'shoppers' going into the store and not the dumpster side...

Please stay away from that store at Christmas...The buffalo will trample you when the employee (who pulled the short straw) opens the doors.

It is a tragedy when places like that are torn down for a big box store. There are plans to put one just up the road from me. I've never been to WalMart and I don't plan to go.

I love the mood of this shot. It's beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing the other shots too.

Spectacular photo. One I'm sure is well deserving of hand tinting, and whatnot.

Chain stores will take over the world.
