since we have been spending some time talking about sx-70 manipulations in the althernative forum i thought i would post an example of an attempt of creating that look with Photoshop.

On occasion, i have played around with some Photoshop techniques with mixed results. I think i have a technique down, but i find the color palette lacking and since i am basically a black and white person and on top and not very handy with PS it has been a chore to figure out how to adjust the colors.

Is this the same look, no, but is as close as i have come so far.

I really have to be in a special frame of mind to work with PS, so things are moving slowly.

Anyway, here is one attempt:

Yeah, PS just does not allow for a Feng Shui experience, does it? Nothing beats a dark room, soft amber light, hum of the enlarger, running water.

Windows XP has never given me Goosebumps…

Not bad. :) Visually, it does come close.

How we wish to work and what appeals to us is all personal choice, of course. I agree with you, Ann, sitting down to fool in PS does require a certain mindset. I'm on a computer all day, so the darkroom, Daylab, hand coloring at my drafting table - anything that requires a more tactile approach has great appeal to me.

The one thing that could bring it closer to "real life" is a tablet... like a Wacom. I've got a little one (the Bamboo Fun Tablet) and being able to use a pen/stylus makes things light-years easier. I like to compare using the stylus to using the mouse as being the same "difference" as drawing with a pencil vs drawing with a rock.

I like the effect you've got here, ann... but do us a favor and post one of your "real" manips too so th 'kids' can see! I was smitten with a yellow flower you did (in case you can't decide). hahahaha :)

Fascinating how you can create that look!

Ok so I'm hoping that this isn't an insult in anyway, I certainly don't think it is but you never know. Here goes... I think this would look really great on a stretched canvas on a wall as artwork to spice up a kitchen. But I've got a decorating bug for my kitchen with those colors in mine so maybe I'm the only one... lol

Anyway, Hope that comes across as the complement it is suppose to be.

Sorry! I've been a busy bee! To be honest, I have no idea yet. Not much wall space in the kitchen. Ann, thanks for the offer but right now... I don't have much extra cash floating around. Maybe I'll see what we can work out when I do. ;)

i am going to be making some test prints on canvas and i thought you would be a good test subject.

not too worry about the cash, just give me a size smaller than 13x19 and pm me your address.

i don't know that i would call this digital painting. it is a technique we used with sx70 film and many folks do think it has a painting look.

i do not use the blender tool and am cluesless what it does or how to use it.
i use several different filters ending up with the liquid tool to get the sx70 manipulated effect.
