Well, I love the warm light here. I think it's an intriguing scene - I'm a fan of the deserted street look.

So let's have the story! :)

I also like the light, and the 'small town downtown strip' look to the shot.

So, what's the story?

Very nice! I like the arc of yellow light. So what's the story?

It's really just another sad story that has been told throughout the US. The demise and deteriation of small downtowns due in part to the Big Boxes. I say in part because if the town planning board had made a few different choices perhaps, just perhaps Ma & Pa would still have their business in tact.

I moved to this are in 1972.... (ummm, would you believe that I was just an infant..... okay, would you believe that I was only.... curses.... nevermind). Anyway, this is the next town over and it was fairly prominent for the tobacco and grains business in its day. Any day of the week you could walk down Main Street and it fairly busy with local trade. People were nice, the hotdogs and cherrycokes (made by sodajerks btw) were to die for. Zebulon decided to "grow" and expand itself beyond its little town status.

It has taken some time to evolve, but business is decidedly outside of Main Street now. The number empty store fronts is depressing. I went back today to document some more just after 5:00pm. I was the only car parked on the street!

So here are a few more photos. Bear in mind that it snowed overnite and the sky was very cloudy and featureless.

I know what you mean about small towns and what is happening to them. :( I think the rather bleak weather-related mood you shot under sort of fits, doesn't it?

I have to say that I quite like that shot of the barber shop with the shadow of the lightpost showing. Nice.

I have often thought about doing some shooting in the small town I live in. It's got a relatively small but bustling business area, suprisingly.

Thanks! I agree with Jeanette's comments about the weather here kind of reflecting the mood. As hard as it is for big cities right now, these smaller towns can have a huge negative impact if a nearby factory or large employers shut down or lay folks off.

Regardless, it makes for good shooting. Keep it up!
