Happy Fourth of July to my 'neighbors' to the south. I hope you're enjoying the day, relaxing with friends and family, and looking forward to fireworks.

Thank you Anty .. a very pleasant day, hot, dry with a nice breeze coming off the Pacific. A good day for fireworks, BBQ and homage to our country and to those that have contributed to its history.

I was happy to hear that they reopened to tourists today the crown of the Statue of Liberty. I've never made that trek, but would like to next time I'm in NYC

Thanks for this thread, Anty! :) I had such a wonderful day, I didn't even make it to the Beat!
Up early to help move some more furniture to my son's new apartment, then off to meet friends who own a nice-sized pontoon boat for a day on the lake. Out drought in the SE USA is officially over and it was wonderful to see the lake levels normal again! We call their boat "the floating living room"; camped out for hours. Watched fireworks from the middle of the lake with dozens of other crazy people. There were 7-8 houseboats tied together and many onboard parties going on. It was so much fun.
Didn't get home till 4:30 AM. I've been moving slowly today.

Thanks to our Canadian neighbors for the greetings. This time tomorrow, I'll be in your fair country (Vancouver Island) on vacation. Been there a lot and it's the perfect antidote to the desert.

NOT that anyone cares but im going to share my story....
last year on the 4th, we decided to go to Rider University to watch some fireworks because it was close to us. The website said the show would start at 945, so at 9pm we left. as we are approaching our exit on 295 (it couldnt have been later than 920), we are watching the finale happen. so we pulled over and enjoyed the last bit.
so that was lame. but because the finale was good, we had assumed the show would be good.
this year, we decided we'd get there for 9 just in case they did it to us again and the website was lying.
but after a gasoline mishap, we ended up driving around for hours looking for gasoline rather than stopping for the show because my friend's car was not going to be able to make it to a gas station if we stopped to watch the show. so we caught about 3 or 4 fireworks from the road while searching for a gas station which led us through Trenton and had us in the car for nearly 2 hours.
so screw the fireworks at Rider.

so screw the fireworks at Rider.I agree! :irked: I wouldn't give them another chance. 9:45 DOES seem the best time to start during summer months, since the sun is barely setting by 9 and of course, we all want a pretty dark sky.
Now that you mention it, we were waiting on the boat and I recall taking a peek at the time and announcing to all that it was 9:46, as we were wondering when it would get going. Within a minute of that statement, suddenly it started. We were bobbing in place in front of a bridge over the lake, as the display was actually happening on a beach there, and we could see a loooong line of cars there, backed up traffic while people were trying to get in - after the show began, it appeared people just put their cars in park, cut the engines and watched. The motorcycle cops puttered around but did nothing.
Hope you have better luck next year!

we will not be attempting the show at Rider next year. (i may eat those words)
the day before, we went to a small town firework show and there's no way what they did complied with the regulations. id say we were ~200ft from the mortar racks and they were breaking over our heads. it was absolutely amazing.
The fireworks in Flemington, NJ are a hidden gem.
